Precious

Beneath the porcelain exterior
Of your current mask
Crouches your reality

Its venom meant to sting and paralyze
Drips in silent drops
And the sharpened claws
Designed to tear deep into their victims
Clatter ever so slightly beneath your china fingers

Each finger
So eloquently made
Pristine nails tap against perfect lips
Which issue a melodious voice telling exactly what you want to hear

I went along with that pastel voice
For so long

But

One day I saw a crack in that perfect porcelain
And saw beneath the surface
A glimpse of your hidden interior

I puzzled over this blemish
And strangely the next day it was no longer there
The spot replaced with a shiny patch of new plaster

Life went on
Your friends continued to flutter around you

I hold my distance
Hesitant of the new knowledge

Then another fault line snaked its way across
This new ravine offering another horrifying glimpse of its inhabitant

You can't keep patching your shell forever
It's only time till it cracks away completely

A lie just waiting to happen
